How to Make Your Own Vegan Soap at Home

Joaquimma Anna February 26, 2023

Homemade vegan soap is a great way to make your own vegan beauty products. Not only is it easy to make, but it’s also healthier than store-bought soaps, since it doesn’t contain any animal-derived ingredients. With just a few simple ingredients and some basic soap-making techniques, you can make your own vegan soap at home. Here’s how:

1. Gather your ingredients. To make vegan soap, you’ll need some form of plant-based oil such as coconut oil, olive oil, or palm oil. You’ll also need lye (sodium hydroxide), distilled water, and essential oils for scent.

2. Prepare your work area. Gather all of your ingredients and safety gear, including goggles, rubber gloves, and a face mask. Make sure you’re working in a well-ventilated area and that you have a heat-resistant container for mixing.

3. Measure the lye and water. Measure out the lye and water in separate containers. Carefully and slowly add the lye to the water and stir until it’s dissolved. Be careful to avoid breathing in the fumes and to not let the lye solution come in contact with your skin.

4. Measure the oils. Measure out the plant-based oils and melt them in a double boiler. You can also use a microwave, but be sure to keep an eye on it so the oils don’t overheat.

5. Mix the lye solution and oils. When the oils are melted, slowly add the lye solution to the oils and stir until the mixture reaches “trace”. This means that when you stir the mixture, the lye and oil will stay blended together instead of separating.

6. Add essential oils. Once the mixture has reached trace, you can add your essential oils for scent. Make sure to use only natural, plant-based essential oils.

7. Pour the mixture into molds. Carefully pour the mixture into soap molds or a pan lined with parchment paper. Place the molds or pan in an area where it won’t be disturbed and let them sit for 24 hours.

8. Cut and cure the soap. After 24 hours, remove the soap from the molds or pan and cut it into bars. Place the bars on a drying rack and let them cure for 4-6 weeks. During this time, the water content of the soap will evaporate and it will become harder and milder.

9. Enjoy your homemade vegan soap! After the curing process is complete, your soap is ready to use. Enjoy your homemade vegan soap knowing that it’s free from animal-derived ingredients and harsh chemicals.

Making your own vegan soap at home can be a fun and rewarding experience. With just a few simple ingredients and some basic soap-making techniques, you can make your own vegan soap that’s healthier than store-bought varieties. Give it a try and enjoy the satisfaction of knowing that you created something beautiful and natural.
